Popular and common types of fencing

Over the years, I've found that the most popular and common types of fencing used within the industry are timber posts with timber fence panels and concrete posts (and concrete gravel boards) with a timber panel.

How long should a fence last for?

Both are to be admired for their reliability, however timber posts and panels are the cheaper option and will give you a much softer feel to your fence and garden.

I always advise clients to use the best fencing materials, as this will prolong the life of the fencing as much as possible. Treating the post and panels yearly also helps in that respect. If you opted for timber posts and timber panels, I would expect a fence like this to last between ten and twelve years.

Concrete posts and gravel boards are a much stronger option of material because the concrete doesn't rot in the ground and the panels sit off of the ground. This type of fencing is more expensive., but could last up to 18 to 20 years. You will still need to change your panels once or twice in that time but, in my opinion, I feel it's much better value in the long run.
