Plastering jobs: trader tips

In addition to the pricing and completion time information, our recommended plasterers also shared some helpful advice.

General

  • A good plasterer will sheet up properly before each job to protect your furniture and flooring. We asked all of our plasterers to include sheeting up and cleaning up in their estimates.
  • It’s easier for plasterers to work in unfurnished rooms. It’s likely that the job will take longer and cost more if rooms are not empty. We asked all of our plasterers to estimate costs based on rooms being empty.

Research methodolgy

In July 2012, we sent a survey to all Which? Local traders in the Plasterers category with a rating of three stars or more and an email address.

20 plasterers responded to the survey. Using their experience and expertise, they answered questions about the cost of popular plastering jobs, and how long they should take to complete.

Removal of plaster
If plaster is being removed traders will need to include the cost of a skip for waste disposal.

Rendering
External plastering (rendering) will often require scaffolding (if the property is higher than one storey).

Scaffolding is expensive and will bump up the cost of quotes.

Ask your trader is scaffolding is required and if this is included in the price. This will make it easier for you to compare quotes.
