Great, wholesome food in good sized portions. Great value for money. Warm, friendly and welcoming. I've eaten here frequently and have never been disappointed. Not a huge menu, but, with the specials menu, something for everyone. Excellent beers.

There is a lovely walk from the village shop along the longest village green in britain, past some wonderful old houses. Keep going along the road until the canal bridge. cross the canal and make your way back to the village (turn right over the bridge) along the canal towpath. Turn right acroos Frethern canal bridge and return to your car stopping at trader for a reasonably priced lunch. if the weather is good to you can sit outside and if you are really lucky watch a game of cricket on the green.

Camra pub of the season, Winter 2012, see website, this is an excellent pub serving beautiful food, good beer and often, many local ciders. The environment is good and the car parking easy. The scenery round the village of Woolhope is good too. Prices are reasonable for the high quality provided.

We've been back again recently and our son was there around New Year. Mike and Wendy have given up their venture in Tewkesbury and are devoting all their time to the Gardeners' and it shows! We had an excellent meal, charmingly and efficiently served. Mike is in the kitchen and doing an excellent job. The food was good, particularly the mains of steak and ale pie (home made, proper shortcrust pastry) and pheasant (a whole bird, tender and juicy). The short wine-list is sensible priced. They have a good (and changing) range of well-kept real ales and also ciders. They run a beer festival from time to time and the "bar" side of the trade has picked up recently, alongside the restaurant. The bar has an ancient well that was uncovered during "renovations" several years ago and that makes an interesting talking point. Live music some nights, pub quiz and other seasonal events make for a lively village hub that welcomes "incomers" as well as locals. They also do takeaway food, with the usual staples of burgers, scampi, sausage and haddock, all with chips or selected dishes from the restaurant menu at 20% off the restaurant price. With off-sales of beers and wines, residents and self-catering holiday makers (we were staying in the lovely 17th century Cider Mill Holiday Cottage) are well served without having to go to Tewkesbuty, Winchcombe or Bishops Cleve for a takeaway.

In our opinion probaby one of the best resaurants in Cheltenham. The food is truly amazing with fresh produce, homemade warm breads, meats, vegetarian and fairly focussed on seafood. The wine list is most comprehensive and the cheeseboard is wonderful. We usually arrive early and have a cocktail before our meal in the cocktail bar downstairs. The only drawback is, that it is very popular, cosy and has a warm ambiance, so as you relax and enjoy yourself it can get a bit noisy. But it is worth it. We can't wait to go back again.

I reviewed this pub, my local, in 2007 but since then it has changed hands after a slide in standards and levels of service. I'm glad to say, with new owners, it's back to being the warm and friendly pub that serves excellent meals. Currently log fires are lit in the main bar and small restaurant and these enhance the atmosphere considerably. You won't find haute cuisine in amazing suroundings but you will find good honest fare served up with a smile and at a price most can afford in these days of austerity.

We've always found the food and service excellent at trader - and well-behaved dogs are welcome here which is a great plus. Warning - the full sized 2-in-1 pies require a big appetite!
