trader carries the tagline: ‘Proper pub, Proper beer, Proper food’. What that stands for is a lovely pub and dining room with lots of original features, a comprehensive drinks menu which includes lots of local ales and a fantastic selection of British bar snacks, small plates and main meals. We booked in advance and ate dinner in the dining room which is upstairs. I had a small plate of roasted squash with blue cheese and walnuts, followed by a (pleasingly pink) venison burger and chips. Both were absolutely brilliant. Others at the table had fresh, crunchy salads to start and enjoyed chicken and leek pies and devilled lamb’s kidneys. The great thing about this place is that the menu accommodates adventurous eaters, as well as those who prefer tasty but less daring British fare. Service was quick and friendly and the price perhaps not cheap, but good value. I’d thoroughly recommend this pub and restaurant and, though I live in London, I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

This is a very friendly pub that do good value meals that are excellent, fresh cooked, good portions. They also serve a great pint. Traditional pub food, they welcome everyone even your pooch!

We have been having meals here for a few years & found it good value with a choice of several meals at two for ten pounds. Portion size & quality normally good, just had a roast beef dinner once which was poor . Staff friendly & good service
