My wife & I have been going to the Old Jail or some years& tey have always been welcoming. The food is always very good which is freshly cooked when you place the order so it does NOT come out of a packet via a microwave. The prices are reasonable even for the drink. The real ale comes out of a hand pump. At weekends you always need to book which says it all.

Vast Wetherspoons Pub opposite the theatre. I'm a weekly regular here. Beer on hand-pump constantly changing, good quality and around £2.50 per pint. Food specials . Varied clientele. Sometimes the cast of whatevever touring company pops in after the show . In the past year I've seen Lorraine Chase and Russell Grant! ( not together)

The nearest thing to a village pub in the city. A hidden gem off the beaten track offering a wide and ever changing range of real ales.

I went to a St Patrick's celebration there so the menu was Irish. Delicious Irish stew followed by a to-die for dessert. Staff very helpful and friendly. Great ambiance.

As far as I can see all the improvements have been completed ( previous recommendation comment ). We have been using The trader since just after Paul & Cinda took over and have seen the pub improve no end, the food has seen also seen similar improvement. You should give it a try!

This pub has a real country pub feel, with open fires, stone floors and a good atmosphere. The staff are extremely friendly, and on top of that the food is excellent.

trader has had a great new make over. The decor is subtle and modern in look. The service very friendly and attentive. The menu is broad and the chef has a special scallop dish each day. The restaurant has been full on the three occasions that I have visited so booking is advisable. I would consider this the best restaurant in the area at present.

I recently visited trader after an absence of about 35 years - what a change! Still an interesting and picturesque country pub but now serving excellent and reasonably priced meals in a warm and friendly atmosphere. You queue at the bar to place an order but it was served at the table promptly.

Lovely family run pub has fun nights with lots of different entertainment ideas. It also has all the sports you could possibly want. The food is really good value and very filling the Nelso Burger is amazing - freshly made burgers nothing frozen or prepackaged. Amit and Kel are always so welcoming and they have a great team that keeps up the right atmosphere. Unfortunately the beer is perhaps a bit more expensive than some but I blame that on the brewery! If you aren't a big pub person try them for breakfast its cracking!
