We went for Sunday lunch, the welcome was friendly and relaxed - sit where you like, eat where you'd prefer. The whole meal was fantastic, we didn't choose anything very exotic but everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was extremely good, there was no sense of hurry but we had a three course meal in just under an hour. Starters - lovely subtle pate with real hearty bread and simple dressed salad, really generous helping of prawns with tasty sauce and salad. Main course roast chicken and really superb roast beef, excellent roast potatoes AND new potatoes and five other vegetables, all perfectly cooked - loved the glaze on the carrots. 'Just let me know if you'd like more vegetables or gravy' Asked for a glass of 'house white ' and was offered a choice of three - the one I had was perfect. Almost couldn't manage dessert but had to try!! Best banoffee pie ever and best ever vanilla ice cream loaded with real vanilla seeds (which wasn't even on the menu but arrived when we asked!). All desserts home made - you can tell! We ate in the beautiful new dining room it was better than many top hotels. Can't believe we have lived less than four miles away for years without finding this place, can't wait to take everyone here - highly recommended! Two three course meals, glass of excellent wine, change from £40 - what's not to like?

Fantastic Little Boozer literally right on the River Colne in Rowhedge. It's all about the Ales here - With at least 4 guest beers changing every week (mix of local and UK based breweries). They have been recognised by CAMRA for their services to Ale. Old school style barrel seats up by the bar, and nice to sit outside in the summer overlooking the Colne. Dart Board and quiz machine available yet still retains its traditional charm. If you're lucky then sometimes they have a big joint of Serano ham at the bar which you can carve at your leisure - goes down a treat with an Otter Ale!

This is one of several very good fish/seafood restaurant located in the coastal town of Mersea. Primarily this place is a pub, but it has a very large restaurant area, that was full to capacity on Saturday night. They have a lot of fish specials, and the price is not over the top (which you often get in coastal areas). I had the seafood platter (available as a starter or main) and it was superb, including : Prawns, Smoked Salmon, Smoked Mackeral, Soused Mackeral and Cooked Mussels. This cost around £5 which I felt was excellent value. I would rate this place over the Oyster Bar (down the road) not necessarily in terms of the quality of cooking , but because of its value, and for the selection of drinks - with it being a pub. They had some excellent ales, one of which was a local award winner, it was exceptional - Cant remember the name because I had too many! Perfect place to go for a pint of prawns and accompnying Ale!

Located in the centre of town with lovely sea views. Always busy with boats and florists alike and has a good, relaxed atmosphere. Consistently good food, refreshments and service.

A Chic European style Bar/Cafe in a modern environment. It has the benefit of some additional outside seating. The Urban Cafe offers excellent friendly service with good quality hot and cold food and drinks. There is a competitively priced bar available during the day and on Wednesday to Saturday evenings. The Urban has a welcoming feel during the day and smoothly changes into an enjoyable evening bar atmosphere with live music one night each week.

We have visited Treo's for family occasions and with friends on several occasions and I would always recommend it to visitors. Can get a bit cramped and would always choose the upstairs option as there is air conditioning (a real bonus in the summer). Upstairs may be difficult for some as the stairs are steep and narrow. Food choice excellent and well presented and the desserts heavenly!

This is a friendly and historical local pub which serves good food at very reasonable prices. In good weather one can eat in the garden. On certain days each week there are good deals for pensioners at lunch time and once a week the pub offers fish and chips in the evening. On busy days it is advisable to book.

A local pub with a twist, where you can get a decent beer at a reasonable price. The landlord and landlady are welcoming and whilst food is limited I believe to lunchtime sandwiches (may have changed since I last went), it's a nice drink and relaxing atmosphere for a weekend pint.
