Tony Washington, who runs this small local supermarket and delicatessen, is very helpful. if a customer asks for something unusual which he doesn't stock he is always willing to give it a try. He is community minded and raises money for local charities- and on village occasions entertains with a band or the saxophone choir (in which he plays) in the store room. A truly pleasant place to shop!

Excellent fresh produce and wide range of fruit and veg. The owner, Nikki, makes every effort to procure local produce, or at least British-produced, when possible. Service is excellent, very friendly. Very tasty homemade cakes and biscuits for a coffee treat also available. Highly recommended and very valuable for the local community, where, until about 15 years ago a number of shops of this sort existed which, sadly, closed one by one.

This is a very long established independent village co-operative store (totally independent from the Co-operative Group) situated in a rural part of Yorkshire in the Last of the Summer Wine Country / Peak District, that despite the growth and intense competition from major supermarket stores around the locality continues to survive and thrive in the current economic climate. Locals value their Co-op store as it provides good quality products at good value prices (this is Yorkshire, after all!) and with friendly service. In addition, to which they have a fantastic butchery department making some of the finest pork pies in the land (consistently winning awards at regional / national competitions). Overall, locals value this store and all that it represents even though they can travel a few miles down the road and get cheaper (but not better value) elsewhere. Long may it contiune and prosper - which it will !
