I gave this Nursey a 5-star review back in 2009. Tthere have been many changes since then, not all of which I welcome. They seem to have moved a bit down-market as they have expanded their business into a whole range of non-garden items. They introduced background music (they call it Woodcote Radio) a couple of years ago despite complaints from some customers. It is not something I personally like and there is no escape from it. Whether standing outdoors choosing a plant or walking through the landscaping section, fairly naff music is piped direct to your ears via cheap, tinny sounding speakers. I have a couple of times in more recent times spotted plants in pots that seem to have dried out- something that would never have happened back in 2009. And they seem to be more expensive than they used to be, although the quality of the plants remains first class. The cafe/restaurant service has expanded greatly, with two venues now and more choice. The quality is good, although the greatly enlarged main one in its new location does remind me more of a staff canteen than a restaurant. We continue to use the venue because the quality, range and choice of goods remains good, but I find that going there is not the pleasant experience it once was.

Huge garden centre, bought loads of stuff there over the years, they do a lot more than gardens, the food shop is good, they sell furniture and clothes, have occaisional farmers markets in the car park and I attended a vintage car show there as well. They even have live Reindeer there at xmas.

This is one of the great garden centres. Very wide range of excellent plants and other garden related stuff, plus good advice on gardening. There are also very good display flower beds and a very decent restaurant. A couple of miles down the road they have another place, less plants, more the other stuff that large garden centres sell, as well as a top rate display of hard landscaping/paving.

This Garden Centre is without doubt the best retailer in the area, selling quality products in very pleasant surroundings. The nursery and the greenhouses are well laid out and well stocked. The staff are friendly, helpful and very knowledgable. 5 star rating and 5 star value (as quality is guaranteed).

I have been wary of the prices on their bird food. Normal price for meal worm is £19.99 and get one free. Twice the'get one free' has been removed and been priced at £19.99 each! I would advise that you check out before you buy.

I can highly recommend this garden centre as being helpful, good value for money and generally a pleasant place to visit. There is now an extended coffee shop, Arthurs, which has had the addition of a lovely conservatory and outside seating area overlooking the gardens - the food is very good and very well priced - the service is polite and friendly. I can vouch for the knowledge of the staff and the whole ethos behind the running of the centre as I am currently a student at their RHS horticulture course - another good thing about Coolings - the teaching is excellent and comprehensive. The second Coolings further in to the village of Knockholt is also worth a visit - this too sells plants and garden accessories but has a lovely nature walk for children (and adults) with the attraction of wallabies and wildlife areas - a nice alternative on a summers day and there is also a great restaurant for after. This is a very professional garden centre which gives good solid advice about the plants and horticultural methods - worth a visit!

The staff at Wych Cross are not only very knowledgable but are, without exception, friendly & helpul. The quality of all their products can be relied upon and their roses are exceptional. There is also a very pleasant small tea room on site. They run a loyalty card scheme that is very good value as points can be either stored up or used at the time of next purchase. We have used Wych Cross for many years - probably in excess of 20 &, although we live in Lewes it is worth the 32 miles round trip to visit them rather than more local garden centres

A family run business which always looks fresh and inviting and friendly atmosphere makes it a popular venue-decided to close on Sunday-and hasn't dropped any business.
