I remain a delighted Customer of Phil Wilkins. He continues to service and MOT my cars for many years now. My most recent positive experience of Phil's professional services occurred when I delivered my VW POLO for a MOT. A dashboard warning light indicating an ABS failure just as I delivered my car occurred. Phil carried out the MOT followed by the repair and appropriate paperwork.

Surely Wee Jock and I aren't the only two Which readers who use PJ Wilkins. I'd also like to update a previous entry. I have a Volvo V50 which I've used EAG to service since new. I've discovered that the sunroof drains of V50s tend to block. EAG have 'cleared' the problem on the passenger side three times now, the last cost me £180 because the A-pillar trim has to be removed. When the passenger side floormat began to regularly fill with water again I asked Phil to look. They took off the wheel arch covers, internal trim and discovered blocked valves at the bottom of the drains on both sides. They removed all the sludge by hand, not just using an airhose as I suspect EAG did. The total cost for both sides £140 vs £180 for a temporary and failed fix to one side. It's the value of using people trained to understand the root cause and fix the problem at source rather than fill in a timesheet within the factory specified time. My Volvo will be going to Phil in future as well.

A decent, honest garage. Much cheaper than a main Nissan dealer I have used but not too cheap (I don't want cheap brakes and poorly trained mechanics near the car I carry my family around in). Have used them for all services and MOTs since 2011 and my car has never needed repairs other than normal wear and tear. They use only genuine parts and have never tried to fix things that don't need fixing. Important to me is that they use Bosch Servicing which in my experience from other good garages ensures a reliable service. They offer car collection/drop off or will drop you home if you prefer at no cost and return the car to you nice and clean inside and out.

I have used Adam and Ben at Thornword motor company for some time. They have maintained several of my cars including a Ford Galaxy, Mercedes 320 CSL and a custom built "Lotus 7" replica. They are always very well priced, helpful and produce top quality work. They never recommend unnecessary work and always give an honest and accurate estimate of the work required.

Needed to renew timing belt and thermostat housing for my 2003 Ford Fiesta. I have had this car from new and had used a local Ford dealership in the past for all servicing. Ford wanted £190 just to replace thermostat housing and over £400 to replace the timing belt which is a requirement when the Fiesta reached 70,000 miles. I found Paul Spalding.Automobiles on 'Which Local'. There are so many garages in Harlow that rip you off that I have found to my cost in years gone by. I found the staff at Paul Spalding Automobiles courteous, honest and friendly. They quoted up front the cost for the work and retained the replaced parts to show what they have done. To replace the timing chain, thermostat housing and coolant resevoir which was split (something the local Ford garage missed when I had it serviced a week before) came to just under £300. I wasn't looking for this work to be done cheaply. I want to pay a fair rate for what is a significant piece of work but in my opinion this was a very good price. My wife dropped my car off and they even gave her a lift home. I would fully recommend Paul Spalding Automobiles and will be taking all my cars there in furure.

I along with friends and family who I have recommended to use trader and have done for a number of years now for service MOT and repair and have always had excellent service and never had cause for complaint. He is always honest about his prices and i have never had reason to challenge the price I have to pay as Steve is always upfront which his charges and will never do work that has not been agreed to prior to work being carried out. He will not put any used parts on a vehicle as he will not be able to guarantee the parts supplied. He will only put genuine parts for your vehicle. trader also collects and returns vehicles he works on.

Friendly, professional service with fantastic value for money. My Volvo service/MOT was a third the price of a main dealer (free MOT with service and free wash & vac too).

You know when you get a good feeling about something, well I have never met a more helpful and friendly mechanic even after I told them that I was selling my car and didn't want to spend much money on it! When I picked my car up after a service (plus a few things to get it through it's MOT), my filthy car was returned sparkling, inside and out! Better than the many other local garages I have used over the last 10 years.

I have used Paul Spalding for some 6 years for servicing and repairs to three cars including a BMW. I have found them to be honest and very good with the work they do and also their charges are quite reasonable. I have also recommended them to friends and family.

A warning light was displaying on my car dashboard. Halford's Auto carried out a diagnostics test, which showed it was a fuel problem, but the mechanic found nothing wrong. His decision was that nothing needed repairing or replacing so he reset the display, only invoicing for the diagnostics. He could have easily carried out work (or not carried out work!) and charged me. I would never have been any the wiser. The car has running fine since.
