I contacted Jim after reading reviews here. I wanted the rendering and the wall around the front door made tidy. Jim came up with the idea of using bricks to set it off. The result was fantastic! Good pleasant lads and good workmanship at a reasonable price. He was delayed by a day in starting due to inclement weather on another site but sent a text informing me and also kept in touch throughout the work. Communication!! Something sorely lacking in the building or any other trades!

I have been trying to find a builder to sort out a damp problem in my entrance hall for some considerable time. After being let down badly by at least 2 other builders I approached trader for an estimate. Mr McCaig turned up on time and had the estimate emailed to me the same evening. I was impressed by his knowledge and professional approach and asked him to do the work for me. The work was done within a week of his visit and I am delighted with the result. I would have no hesitation in recommending trader for any building work you may require and I have already passed on Jim McCaig's contact details to my family and work colleagues. If you are looking for a reliable builder then look no further.

Repaired a nasty crack in the garden wall. Workmanship was neat and tidy. Correct methods used ( unlike previous builder). Apears to be a reliable builder.

I recommend this company for their efficiency, friendly approach and professionalism in carrying out a simple building project in my home. They removed an old fireplace, built up the gap and replastered the walls ready for redecoration. Unlike other builders I approached trader provided a written detailed quotation after an initial survey and completed the works on time and to budget - first class!

I feel a little self concious at writing a third review for JBC, and do so because in very difficult economic circumstances the firm has gone from strength to strength, without sacrificing either quality or value. Jim McCaig has just completed the final phase of the transformation of what was a small ex-council house in rather sad condition. In this final phase, all the windows have been replaced with modern double glazing and the creation of a patio door; all the internal doors have been replaced with glass panelled doors, allowing light to flow through my house; the bathroom has been stripped right back and replaced with modern, safe units and a new safe floor. Finally, my sitting-room and my office have been replastered to a very high standard. The work was done well, on time and at a competetive price. Jim is a creative, knowledgable and thoughtful builder, and has transformed my home over the last five years. Property value has been increased, no doubt, but that is as nothing compared to the pleasure and satisfaction that I now feel in my house. I would unhesitatingly recommend trader on both price and quality.

Had all windows of my house re-pointed recently. Was a bit suspicious when the price quoted was almost 50% cheaper than other local firms. However, the work (which was considerable) was carried out to a high standard, using good quality materials. No shortcuts were taken. Worthy of recommendation.

We were very impressed by the service we received from GSM Contracts. The quality of the work was excellent and the job was carried out efficiently and on time. The cost was competitive and dealing with the owner Gordon McGuigan was a pleasure. He was very good at responding to any questions and all the tradesmen were very pleasant and completely trustworthy. We cannot recommend this builder highly enough. We had a reasonably sized extension built including a new kitchen,bathroom and new CH boiler. We would certainly use this firm again.

My elderly mother in law had problems with dampness inside and outside one wall of a room in her house. As I live 200 miles away, I wanted someone who was reliable and trustworthy. I found trader Ltd through Which Local and contacted them by phone. Jim McCaig came to assess the work and provided me with a quotation by email with a copy hand delivered to my mother in law. We accepted the quote and his men started work within a few days. Mr. McCaig made regular visits to check on their progress and keep my mother in law informed. He also phoned me to report on what he had found during the work. He was very attentive and, from what I can tell, his men did a thorough job.

Andy put in a loft ladder and loft flooring for us, turned up on time and finished the job to a high standard. He also found an ingenious way of fixing a broken stair spindle as we were unable to find a ready made match for it.

I used this company to repair some rendering on my house and I was quoted a very reasonable price. At the time I asked about the guttering as I thought that it would need replaced but it was explained that it only needed the joints repaired. A less honest builder would have jumped at the chance of doing a large amount of unnecessary work.

I found Andy on Which Local, and would like to add my recommendation to those already given. Andy is reliable, attentive to detail, and is a great worker and tradesman. No fuss, no mess and friendly. He did a great patio slabbing job for us, including steps, ramp, fencing and greehouse construction. We highly recommend him.
