Always greeted with a smile, nothing too much for the staff, food freshly cooked, well presented and fantastic. Amazing views of the downs as you eat. Reasonably priced

This is the second time we have visited and the beer / food has always been good quality. We ordered fish and chips. Locally caught fish (according to the menu), freshly cooked and lovely crisp batter. Chips were chunky and hot. Mushy peas as well. In all, a good, satisfying meal. Beer (real ale of course) was also well looked after and most enjoyable. Service was a bit slow (bar was packed which is a good sign) but not a problem as the food was freshly cooked!

We thought this restaurant was great - good value too. I think with a little bit of work it would get a Michelin star - but then the prices would be £20 a head more so I'll be very happy if it stays as it is! The house wines were both good and the atmosphere was nice - full restaurant on a Thursday evening so do book.

First rate dinner at trader this evening: Chicory and Stilton Salad, followed by Salmon with Langoustine and Fennel, rounded off with Passion Fruit Souffle. Excellent, restaurant standard food and presentation - very highly recommended - premises owned by Chef who trained with Gordon Ramsay.

Second time at Fig Tree in two years and don't know why we left it so long between visits! It was equally memorable. They do a v. good special menu for £18.95 for 2 courses and for just a couple of £ more - 3. We could not resist the a la carte - i had beetroot and goats cheese starter followed by calves liver and bacon - indulgent treats! Will not be leaving it as long to revisit.

Friendly and helpful staff. Inviting food, always freshly cooked served in a relaxed dining area. Consistent standard on several visits - recommended.

Looking for somewhere which would be open for food in the Haywards Heath area at around 4pm on a Bank Holiday Monday my boyfriend and I went into a locals pub which declared, 'no, we're not doing food, sorry, but the Wheatsheaf down the road is...it's not very nice though...'. We decided to give it a go anyway and were so glad we did because we were very pleasently surprised, so much so that I felt I just HAD to write this review to sing its praises. According to their website the business has just undergone a change of ownership and a complete refurbishment. Well, the new owners have got it spot on as far as I'm concerned! The food is incredible and extremely reasonably priced (and available all day!), the staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities and decor are just right. We didn't stay in the accommodation although we would happily have had we needed to having experienced the food and bar service. I highly recommend this pub as a lovely place to eat and drink this summer!

Really good food. personal service and comfortable surroundings. shame it wasn't busier. The jazz evening won't suit everyone but still adds to the atmosphere

We first met this business when organising a christmas party for our local bridge club. Nothing was too much trouble - three courses with a good range of choices at £12.50 per head. We have returned several times subsequently, and enjoyed their oap specials at £7.95, again offering four starters and 12 main courses plus a range of desserts/ The price includes two courses - starter and main course or main course and dessert plus coffee (and mints). Food is described as `home cooked rustic` The choice is quite wide on the a la carte menu apart from the oap offering. Their major drawback is the location - a previous station which is not obvious from the road, and tucked away behind the local auction rooms. Parking, at present, is plentiful
