In my opinion, no way does it compete with the Angle at Hetton as stated by previous review. Used this review to book the table, that was not a good move! Food good enough, scallops not fresh but frozen and watery. Service great but had to be asked 3 times for the bottle of water! Rest of meal good but not outstanding. The décor is outlandish red wallpaper with birds and cadges, bird cadges hanging from ceiling lights, but we the customers felt like the caged bird, small poky room squashed in and there was a lack of fresh air. Twas the best in town but needs to go some way to be highly recommended. Prices are reasonable except that the bar prices seemed very high on this Tour de France weekend!

A warm and friendly atmosphere, with open fires. In the summer there is a large beer garden to the rear. The food from the Rustic Kitchen is something to beholden. Menu has something for everyone, portions are large, food is delicious and cost prices make it great value for money

Eat here a couple of times a year and always enjoy it. We have no reservations about recommending it to friends - our neighbours all know it already! My only reservation is that there is sometimes little choice for a vegetation - the dish may be delicious but I dare say even ambrosia (food of the gods) might get boring after a time!

Stopped off at this pub today after having a morning walk in Skipton and before an afternoon's adventures in the Yorkshire Dales. Looked inviting from the outside and once inside we weren't disappointed. Friendly welcome and some delicious food. Great choice and nothing we had failed to hit the mark. The three of us enjoyed pulled pork sandwich, lamb and mint pie with gravy, and roast beef with yorkshire. The chips were particularly good as was the gravy. And I tried the Hobgoblin draft beer which was equally delightful. Thoroughly recommended.

Our local up market restaurant. We went Sunday lunchtime when they do a value 3 course meal with coffee for £30 p.p. The restauarnat was full but it is cleverly divided into smaller rooms so the atmosphere is very good, and the service excellent. The meal was very enjoyable with up market pub food and Yorkshire portions! My wife needed a doggy bag for her sweet which was provided without hesitation. Wine selection good but a little on the pricey side at the bottom end. All other meals are a la carte with a very interesting menu and I would budget £50 p.p. for three courses plus coffee. We will be going back!

This is a great place to meet for a pleasant drink and a very good lunch - within easy walking distance of the city centre and York railway station. Although it is a 5 star hotel it is cosy and not intimidating, and the staff are welcoming and helpful. We met local family members in the Whisky Bar and had then had the set lunch in the Grill Room - value for money score reflects the excellence of the food, service and the surroundings.

My wife and I have dined here regularly for some years now and have never been disappointed. The owner, Amie, who runs the business with her partner, Angus, is also the head chef, and produces a varied menu to suit all tastes and appetites, with daily changes on the "specials" board. What never varies is the quality of the food and its presentation. The staff, as one would expect in any good establishment, are attentive and courteous. What sets them apart here is their natural friendliness - your welcome will be genuine. The beautiful, distinctive building dates back to before the beginning of the 18th century and is steeped in history, with witchcraft connections and even murder, trial and hanging all having taken place on the premises (don't worry - these were over 300 years ago). At a height of nearly 1200 feet it has views looking down over Oldham and Manchester, but also far beyond to West Lancashire, Cheshire, Snowdonia and even to Shropshire - Bredon Hill often being visible. It has a beer garden, serves well looked-after real ale, and the original oak-beamed bar, which serves as an ante-room to the restaurant, has the original stone floors and an inscription regarding the aforementioned murder on 17th August 1704. At home I have a cookery book by Nigel Slater entitled "Real Food". If you can't do it yourself then come here for it! There are sophisticated dishes on the menu, of course, but the hand-cut chips are to die for!

Perfect balance between pub, bar and restaurant in Grassington village. Chilled out bar area and more formal dining room. Remarkable food for very reasonable prices. Drink the Hetton Pale Ale, try the bar menu, I've done that for years! Good choice for locals and Grassington visitors trying to choose where to eat and drink.

Amazing to find a Vineyard in Holmfirth, 7 acres, 7,000 vives, 10,000 bottles a year, and a top award winning rose. We were bought the vineyard tour and sparkling afternoon tea as a gift. We really enjoyed the afternoon and would recommend it. Looking at prices the tour was really excellent, interesting and included tasting 3 wines, very good value. The tea was also very good but I felt it overpriced. Wine is £15 a bottle, very good, but I think you are paying a big premium. The restaurant is only open in the evenings on Friday and Saturday and then only to 8:30.

We have eaten here many times and will continue to do so. Food is always good and we have always found the service to be excellent. I am amazed that someone has found the service to be below par.
