Take the stress out of getting an estimate.

We advise that you should get at least three quotes before having work done on your home. But how do you know if a trader's asking the going rate?
You may have personal experience of the man with a van turning up to price a job. The trader ruefully shaking his head before explaining; 'Well, it's a very big job ...'
But now you can now find hundreds of costs for home improvements at Which? Local. From repointing brickwork to building an extension, we have the details.
If you're a member of Which? Local, you can find out what you should expect to pay.

What's included in the costs?
- Labour
- Materials
- Contractors’ overheads & profits
- Scaffolding and equipment
- VAT
For work costing less than £250, the price also includes a call-out charge. So for small jobs, you can reduce costs by getting a trader to do several jobs in one visit. Call-out fees vary by the type of trader and where you are in the country.
Regional price differences
The costs should be adjusted depending where you’re having the work done. For example costs in London are the most expensive in the country. Login in to read how you can work out the regional price differences.
